We are proud to introduce our guest blogger, Buddy Wofford with AquaGuard Basement Systems. AquaGuard provides solutions to foundation repair and waterproofing needs.  They are also the experts in basement and crawlspace waterproofing and encapsulation.  Belco Electric works with AquaGuard and can provide safe and reliable power to sump pumps and dehumidifiers associated with the AquaGuard system. In this section, we are thrilled to have Buddy give us some information on how crawlspaces have been built incorrectly for years!

Create a Healthier Home and Save Money Doing It!

Winter is just around the corner and if saving energy is important to you, you can save from 20% to 30% on your heating bills by sealing, encapsulating, and conditioning your crawl space.  For the most part, people don’t realize that a home breathes like a fireplace which draws air into a vented crawlspace and from there it goes up through the first floor and out the attic.  This draws moldy, musty, bacteria ridden air into the home.  As much as 40% to 50% of the air we breathe in our home comes from the crawlspace.

By encapsulating your crawlspace, all of these problems can be solved, plus it creates a tremendous amount of additional storage space!

Now that you know why you should encapsulate your crawlspace, you may be wondering how this process works.  The basic steps to encapsulating are to first prep the dirt by removing all of the organic material.  We then seal off all of the foundation vents as well as any other air penetrations.  Depending on the amount of moisture present, an interior drainage system may be needed.  In these situations, we will install an engineered pipe and gravel drainage system around the interior perimeter to a sump pump or gravity exit.  The next step is to securely attach and come down the walls and across the earth with the CleanSpace Liner which is 20 mil, 7 layers, fiber reinforced with a antimicrobial treatment on one side.  We wrap all of the support posts with the CleanSpace Liner also.

The final step is to install a SaniDry dehumidifier, a commercial grade dehumidifier that can take care of up to 5000 square feet with dehumidification and air filtration.
